The disobedient Israelites had been wandering in the desert for forty years, but now they had a bold, strong leader, Joshua, God could finally lead them into the Promised Land.
First they had to defeat the Canaanites. They listened to God’s instructions carefully, and for a week they march round the city of Jericho with the Ark of the Covenant, blowing their trumpets loudly. On the seventh day, they marched round the city seven times, and as they shouted and blew their horns, the city walls began to rattle and shake and, with a terrible crash, collapsed in a heap.
The land was finally theirs, with its green fields and juicy fruit, and the people once more promised to trust in God.
